The House of Representatives, which had been unable to commence due to obstruction by opposition parties, resumed its proceedings on Monday.
Since Wednesday, the House has been obstructed due to the demand made by the main opposition party CPN-UML, calling for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s resignation over his controversial public statement. In his remark, Dahal claimed that a transport entrepreneur had lobbied with India to appoint him as prime minister.
The Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party had also joined in the obstruction, demanding that the prime minister provide clarification on the matter.
During Monday’s meeting, the prime minister addressed the House and responded to the queries raised by opposition lawmakers.
The decision to resume the House proceedings was made following a meeting between Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli prior to the lower House session.
On July 2, while speaking at an event to launch the book ‘Roads to the Valley: The Legacy of Sardar Pritam Singh in Nepal’, Dahal stated, “He [Singh] once made efforts to make me the prime minister. He visited Delhi multiple times and held several rounds of discussions with politicians in Kathmandu to secure my appointment as the prime minister.”
Furthermore, the meeting of the National Assembly, initially scheduled for Monday, has been postponed to Tuesday.
The secretariat of the upper House stated that the meeting scheduled for today could not be held due to special reasons and has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 11:01 am.
