It is sometimes quite hard to establish a complete PC gamer configuration, as there are many product references for sale. Our goal today is to help you build a gaming PC for a budget of 500€. For this, we offer you below a choice of components, which seems to us the most optimal for the budget defined. As you will have understood, the PC will have to be assembled yourself. The assembly is not something complicated but still requires a little rigour. However, rest assured, at the end of the article we will offer you a selection of already assembled gaming PCs intended for people wishing to save themselves this task.

Please note that we also offer configurations for higher and lower budgets, such as 300€ or 700€.

Best Gaming PC Build Under 500

For €500, difficult to have a better config. The quality/price ratio is excellent, as is the performance/price ratio. Indeed, you can enjoy here a machine running all the games, at more than 60 FPS for the most part, for a price close to that of a console. We will also appreciate the evolutionary side. Indeed, it is possible to upgrade the processor or the graphics card without having to change other components. The motherboard is compatible with all the latest Ryzen CPUs, including top-end ones. The presence of two storage disks also brings a real plus, making it possible to combine high data transfer speed and large storage capacity. However, do not hesitate to adapt the storage part of the config according to your needs and your budget.

Obviously, this PC is far from perfect, and the limited budget forced us to make concessions. Thus, the CPU we have selected is far from being the best in applications. It is well below a Ryzen 3600, but this difference in performance is only very slightly visible in game (since it is mainly the graphics card that defines performance)

Processor & Chipset – AMD Ryzen 5600G

A computer cannot do without a processor! This is an essential component, which will ensure the execution of all PC tasks. It allows the proper communication of the components between them, and can therefore be described as the “brain” of the PC. Typically, a computer has a processor and a separate graphics card. However, some processor models include a graphics part, which is therefore used to replace the graphics card, the processor is then called an APU, for “Accelerated processing unit”.

Budget requires, it is on an APU that we have our configuration. AMD has just released a range of APUs based on the latest Zen 3 chip. Compared to models from Intel, these offer relatively good performance in games. 1080p without too much difficulty, which is quite acceptable for a $500 PC.

Regarding the model, this is the Ryzen 5600G. It has 6 physical cores, 12 logical cores and is clocked at 3.9GHz. It has a TDP of 65W, which means that it does not heat up excessively, despite having a CPU part and a GPU part on the same chip.

Motherboard – Gigabyte B550M DS3H

Then comes the motherboard, a component on which all your configuration will be connected. Due to the presence of a Ryzen 5000 in our configuration, we can only take an AM4 socket motherboard. Regarding the chipset, we have chosen a B550 here. This is the chipset that will be found on most PC configurations, the X570 being more intended for high-end PCs and/or people with very specific needs.

Gigabyte offers several relatively affordable B550 motherboards. This is for example the case of our B550M DS3H, which does not exceed 100€. This is in micro-atx format, but still has 4 RAM slots. It is compatible with memory up to 2666 MHz, a good point to be able to easily upgrade our configuration in the future.

RAM – 8GB DDR4 Crucial

For the RAM, our choice fell on an 8GB bar from Crucial. 8GB is sufficient today for most games at 1080p. Crucial offers very classic models for sale, without superfluous RGB visuals, and which therefore have the advantage of being quite affordable.

Obviously, if your budget allows it, do not hesitate to take a second barrette. You will then be able to take advantage of the dual-channel, and obtain better performance in-game.

SSD – Crucial P2 500GB

Next comes the SSD. Our €500 configuration is based here on 100% SSD storage. For performance reasons, we felt that an HDD was not worth it, and that it was better to invest the entire storage budget on the SSD.

We are here on an NVMe SSD, which comes to us from Crucial. This is the P2 model, in its 500GB version. This offers a write speed of 940 MB/s and a read speed of 2300 MB/s. It will plug into an M.2 port on our motherboard, not a SATA port.

Obviously, if your budget allows it, you can go on this SSD in its 1TB version, see 2TB. The 250 GB version is a bit limited for a gaming PC, since games tend to take up a lot of storage space.

The advantage of the NVMe SSD is that it offers excellent read and write speeds, and the loads in games will therefore be very reduced.

Power Supply – Aerocool Lux 550W

The power supply is an extremely important component in a gamer config. This is the part that will power all the components of your 500€ config.

Here, we decided to put a 550W power supply in this 500€ gaming configuration. This power supply will be more than enough to support all of our components. Unfortunately, due to the fairly limited budget of the config, we were unable to take a totally modular power supply. This is semi-modular, so the main cable that powers the motherboard cannot be changed.

Case – Corsair Carbide SPEC-05

For the case, we turned to one of Corsair’s best-sellers, the Carbode SPEC-05. This one sports a fairly classic design, but which remains very successful. It is a medium-tower case, the most standard format, and which is large enough to accommodate all of our components. The side window is a real plus, especially since it covers the entire front. The cooling is done correctly, provided that you add several fans to manage the entry and exit of the air. We will also appreciate the presence of filters used to prevent dust from entering the case. However, you will need to make sure to clean them regularly.

Be careful however during assembly, this model tends to be quite fragile, and must be handled with care.

The performance of the PC Gamer at 500€

It would be ridiculous to buy a gaming PC without knowing its in-game performance. Of course, don’t expect to run the latest Assassin’s Creed in 4K at 60fps, but overall the performance of this computer is still quite good. So I have prepared a list of the main video games accompanied by the performance that you can have with this PC gamer at 500 €.

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will run at around 32fps at 1080p, all with ultra graphics.
  • Forza Horizon 4 will have no trouble reaching 60fps in ultra with this 500€ gaming PC, and once again on a resolution of 1920×1080
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider also shows great fluidity on this config at 500€. Indeed the game easily reaches an average of 57fps, all with the ultra graphics options.
  • PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds meanwhile displays a slightly lower fps counter, probably due to the lack of optimization of the game. On PUBG you will reach an average of 45fps with ultra graphics.

Needless to say, it will be very easy for you to increase your number of frames per second, in particular by adjusting a few graphic options. Especially since the benchmarks here were made with the graphics options set to ultra. You will therefore easily gain a few fps by lowering certain options that are not very useful.

Gamer PCs assembled for 500€

As you know, you will have to buy separately and assemble the components given in the first part of this article. Obviously, this step can be quite complex for someone with little knowledge of the computer world. Thus, it is possible to buy computers that are already assembled, and which will therefore arrive directly usable at your home (an installation of Windows may however be required). I have therefore chosen the best gaming PCs assembled for 500€. Obviously, their characteristics resemble the characteristics of the configuration presented at the beginning of the article. Unfortunately the prices on this type of configuration tend to be a little higher than normal. Here are the best gaming PCs priced at €500
