Announced during a Playstation conference, Resident Evil 8 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of the start of 2021. The latter obviously includes all the codes of the license, namely a horror game in first person view. Mechanically speaking, this opus is similar to Resident Evil 4, introducing new areas and new enemies throughout the adventure.

At present, Resident Evil 8 Village is only planned on PC, Xbox and Playstation, with each time the possibility of playing it without the old generation of consoles as well as on the new one. However, a question remains, will Resident Evil 8 be released on Nintendo Switch, in a version that would obviously be very light graphically.

Few Resident Evil games on Switch

The first thing that could alert us to a possible release of Resident Evil 8 on Swtich is the license history with this console. Currently, only very few Resident Evil games are playable on the Nintendo console. We can still mention episodes 4, 5 and 6 which can be purchased in a pack, as well as Resident Evil Revelation which was also entitled to its port. However, no trace of the latest installment, namely Resident Evil 7, as well as remakes of episodes 2 and 3 which were also not entitled to their Switch version. Therefore, if Capcom were to announce a new port of Resident Evil on Swtich today, logic would dictate that it should be an episode released before Village.

A console that lacks power

Due to its “portable” aspect, the Nintendo Switch is a console that has far fewer resources to offer than home consoles. Thus, most of the ports that are made there undergo a fairly violent downgrade, which we had seen in the past with The Witcher 3. Resident Evil Village is a new generation game, planned among others for the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X. The power gap between the latter and the Switch being so great, it is difficult to see how the developers could successfully port the game without ruining the experience.

It will therefore probably be necessary to wait for the next Nintendo console so that larger ports can see the light of day.

Another Resident Evil planned for Switch

A few weeks ago, Capcom announced Resident Evil Revelation 3. This is a new installment, which would target Switch gamers. This would therefore be clearly optimized for the console and would therefore allow players to benefit from a much better gaming experience than if they were playing a completely downgrade port.

It is therefore difficult to see how the studio could concentrate on several important projects at the same time. This Revelation 3 can thus be considered a “consolation prize” for the non-release of Resident Evil Village on Switch.

In conclusion, we can say that Resident Evil 8 Village will probably never be released on Nintendo Switch. The game is far too resource intensive to be able to run properly on the console, and Capcom prefers to offer fans another opus optimized for the Switch.
